Sleepy Suggestions (A story by Ms Farah)

Let's read the story together! Keep an eye out for any important notes in the story.

This is a story about Alfonse and Kiran, who have been best friends since they were kids. Alfonse is the blue-haired prince who is kind and serious. Kiran is a responsible second-in-command who likes to hide her face under her big hood.

Kiran did not get enough sleep lately. Alfonse realized that she had been working too hard and too much. When he brought it up, she only shook her head and denied the obvious. So, without her knowing, Alfonse decided to ask his friends on how he could convince his best friend to get a good night’s sleep.

He first asked his sister, Sharena. “Do you know how to tell a person to rest?” he asked.

Sharena smiled happily. “Bring her shopping! After lots of walking, her legs will wobble like jelly that she has to rest.”

Her answer did not satisfy him. With a shake of his head, Alfonse continued to ask around. It was then he saw his tall friend, Berkut.

“Do you know how to tell a person to rest?” he asked.

The tall friend scoffed bitterly. “Hit the back of her head. She will surely be out like a light.”

Horror slapped Alfonse’s face. “No!” he shouted, “I want her to rest, not faint!”

After stomping away, Alfonse continued to ask around. But sadly, he could not find a satisfying suggestion. Lastly, he bumped into his quiet friend, Byleth.

Although his brain was lost in a fog, he tried asking, “Do you know how to tell a person to rest?”

His quiet friend thought for a while. “How about you give them some tea? I heard chamomile tea helps people rest and sleep. I’m sure their body will feel light as a feather.”

The answer brought a huge smile on Alfonse’s face. “That’s it! Thank you!”

After an hour of buying the ingredients and brewing the tea, Alfonse finally found Kiran in the study room. He gently placed the tray of cups and teapot on the desk she was using.

His action surprised Kiran, so she gawked up from her study books to realize it was her best friend.

“Here you go,” Alfonse said, “you look so stressed lately, I get worried.”

Her eyes bulged out to hear his concern. “I’m sorry,” she apologized, “I was so nervous about the upcoming exam.” Kiran felt guilty and embarrassed, so she looked at the tea. She took a cup that Alfonse had filled. Kiran drank it, then gasped quietly at how tasty the tea was.

“Did you make this?” she asked.

Alfonse’s smile was a breath of fresh air. “Do you like it?”

Her body felt so relaxed. She sighed peacefully. “Yes, I do. Thank you, Alfonse!”
