What are the dos and don'ts of an interview?

POSTURE - Your posture can convey confidence or insecurity. Sit up straight to send a message that you are comfortable and confident.

EYESMaintain eye contact with your interviewer and others in the room. If you focus all of your attention on one person, you will not engage other interviewers.

HANDSAvoid fidgeting. Use your hands to express yourself in moderation.

LANGUAGEBe clear and direct. Avoid the use of filler words such as um or like between phrases or sentences. Do not ramble. When you finish making your point, stop! Silence is acceptable.


Please refer to page 66 in your learner book. Can you give an example of an open question and an example of a closed question?


Task 1

Please refer to page 48 in your workbook. Take 15 minutes to think of any set of questions that you wish to ask to the interviewee. Then write down questions in your workbook.


Some example sets of questions you can ask are:

1. Family - Are you the eldest? How many siblings do you have?

2. Animals - What type of animal do you think is cutest? Scariest? Why?

3. Anime - What is your favourite anime so far? What type of anime do you prefer?


Task 2

Please refer to page 49 in your workbook. Once you've created your questions, choose a person to interview using your set of questions. You have 30 minutes to conduct your interview and write your answer.


Task 3

Please refer to page 49 in your workbook. Based on the interview you have done, write down some dos and don'ts of an interview. You have 10 minutes to do this task.
