What is a balanced report?

It is a report where all views or points of view of a specific subject or story are discussed or taken into account. 

 

Structure of a balanced report.

Please write down the notes in your composition test pad.

Paragraph 1 - Write the introduction

- What is the main idea or what are the main ideas of your topic?

- Write the meaning of the main idea or ideas. 

- Each paragraph is 3-7 sentences long.

 

Paragraph 2 - Topic sentence 1 (You can start with either pro or con)

- Let's say you start with pro first, what is the advantage/good point of the topic?

- Explain the TS by using the 5W1H strategy to elaborate your information.

- Write examples to make your information clearer.

- Add some connectives to make your essay neater. (However; In addition; That being said; Therefore; etc.)

 

Paragraph 3 - Topic sentence 2 (Now, start with the opposite of your point.)

- Example, since you started with pro, now write the disadvantage/bad point of the topic.

- Explain the TS by using the 5W1H strategy to elaborate your information.

- Write examples to make your information clearer.

- Add some connectives to make your essay neater. (However; In addition; That being said; Therefore; etc.) 

 

Paragraph 4 - Conclusion

- Tip: Can write a summary of the topic sentences.

- Example: 'In conclusion,' or 'To summarise,' 


Task 1

Choose and write a balanced report in your composition test pad. It should be around 250 to 300 words.

You have 30 minutes for this task.

1. School uniforms: should pupils have to wear them?

2. Should parents take their children out of school during term time?

3. Homework: should it be banned?
