Modal verbs express conditions such as possibility, ability, necessity, and permission.

Most common modal verbs are:

  • can

  • may

  • might

  • could

  • should

  • would

  • will

  • must

The formula is: MV + Verb (may walk, must sleep, will eat, ought to run)
